Discussions on BTech

On my last post I seemed pretty sure on my intentions. Till my lecture yesterday. I have realized that I’m just merely floating I’m the waters when I need to go more in depth. I need more meaning, more research, more character to my logical work. Today Chris had discussed with us our BTech year. It is about finding oneself and through a lot of thought and generous hours, finding out what it is I want to achieve. I guess it isn’t as simple as I thought.
We spoke about topics such as a title research questions, problems and issues I need to address which will benefit me and my audience, a literature review, action research, the results I want to attain and how o blog correctly. Chris’s lessons helped with that and allowed me to recap.

I’m going to start by addressing my matters.
Firstly, for my title. I am absolutely confused about this one. I need a question that I cannot answer right now but through the course of the year, I generate results and knowledge. That takes me a step closer to the answer. The first question hat popped into my head was “what flowers represent what Hindu deity”. That is pretty much an answerable question. Google can even answer that. Title question should be the purpose of my study. What is my study about? I know that I want o educate my audience on why we Hindus use specific flowers for specific deities. I also want o do his topic of “Hindu flowers incorporated in traditional Indian jewelry”. I haven’t seen such jewelry before. This will be something new and exciting. Seems as if my title question will baffle me for a while.
Next I need to address the problems and issues I have or will encounter. How it will benefit me and benefit my audience .What can I do to improve my technique maybe or what can I do that will benefit my audience. Do I make more cost effective Indian jewelry or educate my audience of certain flowers for certain deities and their benefit this will give our oneself if offered correctly. For my literature review, if I don’t find my required information from a book, the internet will be my information. Not every single jewelry topic is in a book. Doing the topic that I am, involves my culture therefore, I can easily speak to an educated family member or priest about it. I doubt I’ll find a jeweler who does exactly what I want to do but, I can find jewelers that have done Indian traditional jewelry and get inspiration from them. Also, note down as to why specific flowers are favorites. Their fragrance, their colors, their shapes all plays a role in representing their deity.
My methodology is a breakdown of 4 words:
  •  Plan
  • Act
  • Observe
  • Reflect

It is a cycle of how I will plan, act, observe and reflect upon my work. How I intend on making a positive change. It is my designing, manufacturing, criticizing and reflections at the end product.
Lastly, my results. This is what I am hoping to achieve and based on what criteria do I determine if I have been successful or not. I want to attain the fact that I have manufactured my pieces according to my research and design. I want to be able to educate my audience on traditional benefits through my Indian jewelry.

First day of BTech................good to be back and see familiar faces. Previous to this we had an interview as to what we intend to do for our BTech. My intentions were to create jewellery based on flowers also, research on the preservation of flowers. Through discussions with my lecturers, we came about with the idea of the use of color and flowers in my religion. Flowers play much of an important role in the Hindu culture. Each Hindu deity has a specific flower. Although any flower can be offered to any God, there are certain flowers which are favorites and can bring you fortune and change your destiny. My pieces that I am to create are based on Indian jewellery and flowers that represent their deity. I am  going to explore and interpret these flowers in my own personal way.

Signing off and looking forward to the year ahead :)
